Harry "Moose" Watson
With all due respect to Mark Messier, this Moose was first. I've always had a soft spot for Newfoundland. I've been there a bunch of times and I love it. I've also always cheered for and enjoyed the history of Newfies in hockey. Harry Watson is a double win for me, as he is from Newfoundland but also spent a good part of his childhood in Winnipeg. Here's all you need to know about the original "Moose". Representing our country at the 1924 Olympics in France, Harry won gold. Oh, and he also scored 36 goals in 5 games. Yes, that is correct. He AVERAGED over 7 goals a game for our country in the Olympics. Very true, and very awesome. St. John's, baby. One of the greatest cities in the world.
