Brent Dodginghorse
I lived in Calgary for a couple of years and during that time I was the mascot for the Calgary Hitmen. True story. That's the only way I could make in the WHL. As fate would have it, I was the mascot for a WHL team that rolled everyone pretty much every night for two years straight in the late 90's. During my run as mascot, The Hitmen were 91 and 40. That would be 51 games over .500. They were good. A bunch of future NHLers were on that team, but one of my favourites was 'Dodger. Brent Dodginghorse. Wearing #24 and hailing from the nearby Tsuu Tina Nation, the Horse was awesome. He'd score a few goals here and there. Drop the gloves when needed, even if the opponent squaring off next to him had a few inches and 30 pounds on him. And he did it all with a smile on his face. We got to be friends off the ice and he was one of the nicest guys ever, and on a team that had other guys racking up 60 goals and 150 points, he was arguably the most popular. He's one of those players you never forget. 'Dodger is now a cowboy on the rodeo circuit, making him both one of my favourite hockey players ever and my favourite cowboy of all-time. Long live The Horse.
